Baseline Overview
Create documentation baselines for your Innoslate Document.
Creating a baseline for a document captures a snapshot of the document's entities, relationships, and attributes at a specific point in time. This allows for version control, historical review, and the ability to revert changes if needed.
Below we will review how to manage your Document Baselines.

Create a Baseline
To create a baseline, select the 'Baseline' option under the 'More' button on the top toolbar.
Only users with the 'Owner' role or a custom role that includes Baseline permissions can create a baseline for a document.

Review an Existing Document Baseline
To review an existing baseline, navigate to the Baselines tab in the left sidebar.
The tab is divided into two sections:
- Main Document: Displays the document in its current editable state.
- Baselines: Lists all baselines created for the document, along with their creation dates, times, and any associated signatures.
Select a baseline from the list to view a read-only snapshot of the document as it existed at that baseline, including all entities, relationships, and attributes in the Documents view.

While viewing a baseline, the document is read-only. To resume editing, return to the "Main Document" section.
Reverting to a Baseline
Figure 5: Revert Baseline Video
To revert the document to a previous baseline (restoring entities, relationships, and attributes to match that snapshot):
- Open the Baselines tab in the left sidebar.
- Select the desired baseline in the left sidebar.
- Select "Revert to Baseline" option.
- Select 'Save'.
Reverting will overwrite the current document state with the selected baseline. Any changes made after the baseline was created will be lost unless a new baseline is created first. Consider creating a new baseline of the current state before reverting.
Edit an Existing Document Baseline
Editing an existing document baseline is a straightforward process that allows users to update baseline details while maintaining version control. To begin, navigate to the document containing the baseline you wish to edit and locate the Baseline Options menu in the top toolbar of the interface. From here, select the baseline you want to modify, which opens the 'Edit Baseline' modal. This modal provides an intuitive interface where you can make adjustments to the baseline’s name, description, or associated metadata without altering the document’s contents.

Once inside the modal, you can update the baseline details such as name and signature to ensure they accurately reflect the document’s state or changes made during the project. After making the necessary updates, click Apply to finalize the modifications. Editing baselines enables users to align their documentation with project progress and organizational requirements while maintaining a clear record for tracking historical changes.

All baselines are displayed as read-only and cannot be edited. To resume editing a document, simply switch back to the current version by clicking on the top document link under Main Document, indicated by the red square in the image.
Deleting a Baseline

- Go to the Baselines tab in the left sidebar.
- Select the Baseline in the left sidebar.
- Choose the "Delete Baseline" option in the toolbar.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Deleting a baseline is permanent and removes the snapshot and any associated signature. Ensure it is no longer needed for review or reversion before deleting.
