The Summarize AI feature in v4.11 introduces a new approach for systems engineers to create summaries of documents on Innoslate. This feature enables users to extract key points and generate an easy-to-read document summary, saving time while maintaining a high level of accuracy and document context.

In complex systems engineering projects, documents often contain a wealth of hierarchical information that can be challenging to digest. Summarize AI automates the process of condensing large volumes of data into clear, structured summaries, allowing engineers to focus on higher-value tasks.

The Summarize AI feature is particularly valuable in its ability to:

  • Provide users with quick, actionable insights from detailed documents.
  • Customize summaries to fit different content included, varying levels of detail, and different languages.
  • Automatically embed summaries in the document.

In the following sections, we’ll walk through the functionality of Summarize AI step-by-step.

Accessing the “Summarize” Feature

To begin using Summarize AI, navigate to the Documents View, Compilation View, or Test Suite Document on Innoslate. Click on the “More” dropdown menu in the toolbar and select the “Summarize” button. This serves as the entry point for generating a summary for your document.

Setup Phase

In the Setup phase:

  1. The feature fetches the high-level hierarchy of the document, listing all parent entities at the top level (e.g., R.0 Functional Requirements, R.1 Lunar Rover, etc.).
  2. Users can choose which top-level hierarchies to include or exclude from the summary using a simple checkmark method. This selection ensures that only the most relevant sections of the document are summarized.
  3. All information, including child entities, will still be processed if the parent hierarchy is included, maintaining context across the document.

Once the desired hierarchies are selected, click Next to proceed.

Validate Phase

In the Validate phase:

  1. Summarize AI presents key notes extracted from the selected hierarchies. These notes are identified based on the context and content of the document.
  2. Users can review these key points to ensure they align with the intended summary content. Adjustments can be made by revisiting the Setup phase and de-selecting specific hierarchy items, if needed.

This phase provides a comprehensive view of the critical information that will form the basis of the summary.

Options Phase

In the Options phase:

  1. Define the Summary Detail:
    1. Low: Generates a brief summary (~1 paragraph).
    2. Medium: Creates a more detailed summary (~2 paragraphs).
    3. High: Produces an in-depth summary (~3 paragraphs).
  2. Select the Language for the summary. Supported languages include English (default), Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Vietnamese.

This step allows users to tailor the summary’s length and language to fit specific project needs.

Generate Phase

In the Generate phase:

  1. Summarize AI produces a preview of the document summary based on the selected hierarchies, detail level, and language.
  2. Review the summary to ensure it captures the intended context and information. If further adjustments are needed, users can return to previous steps.

Once satisfied, click Create Summary Entity to embed the summary into the document.

Embedding the Summary

After creation, the generated summary is automatically embedded at the top of the document under the title “S.0 Document Summary.” This ensures that the summary is prominently displayed and readily accessible for all users.
